Veterinary pathology
Built for animals, owners and the practices that send you work.
Who it is for
Veterinary diagnostic laboratories serving small-animal, equine and mixed practices: independent commercial laboratories, university diagnostic services and in-house laboratories at referral hospitals. It suits laboratories that do clinical pathology and anatomic pathology under one roof.
Veterinary work does not fit a human LIMS. The patient is an animal with a species, breed and owner; the client is the practice; and a normal result for a cat may be abnormal for a dog. VipLIMS uses veterinary language throughout and applies reference intervals by species.
A day with VipLIMS
- A small-animal practice submits a senior profile for a 14-year-old cat through the practice portal, with the animal's name, breed, owner and history. The case is received and numbered, for example
VC26-004410, and the TAT clock starts. - Results are entered and each is compared with the feline reference interval, so a value that is normal for a dog is still flagged for a cat.
- The clinical pathologist sees a markedly raised total T4 with raised liver enzymes, writes a short interpretive comment and authorises.
- The PDF report goes to the practice in the portal, addressed to the vet with the animal and owner details they recognise.
- A mass removal from a dog arrives in formalin. The pathologist reports gross findings, microscopy, a morphological diagnosis with margins and a comment on prognosis.
- A necropsy case runs over two weeks: gross findings are reported first, then histology and ancillary tests are added, and the final diagnosis is issued as a new version.

Reference intervals in this pack are illustrative adult dog and cat examples only. Intervals vary with analyser, method, breed and age. Every laboratory must verify and replace them with its own validated species-specific intervals before reporting.

Questions labs ask
Which species have reference intervals?
The starter template includes illustrative adult dog and cat intervals. You add validated intervals for horses, rabbits, exotics and production animals yourself.
Do you include VeNom codes?
VeNom codes need permission from the VeNom Coding Group, so they are not bundled. If you hold permission, you can load them as your own terminology pack.
Can it connect to in-house analysers at the practice?
No. VipLIMS is a laboratory system. There is no analyser interface at present, either in your laboratory or at the practice.
Can practices pay invoices through VipLIMS?
Not today. Billing features are limited, and practice and case data can be exported for your accounting system.
